Interests: Writing poetry, musing about/learning about/reading about life, love and everything, what makes people tick, where their lives have been and are headed...what can I say, I have an enquiring mind. :) I love karaoke, but that doesn't make me a bad person ! :) I'm also interested in spirituality and am respectful of all different paths and everyone's right to choose how their life's journey twists and turns. Meeting new people is one of my favorite things. :) I do my best to be a good person and help people where and when I can, which may sound old fashioned, but I don't care. Everyone needs a wee bit of help now and then. :)
Expertise: Too few to mention...;) I've been lucky enough to publish my writing both online and in print in various formats, mostly poetry and articles. I've had pieces published in inspirational calendars, magazines, anthologies and those cute decks of cards that you see at the bookstore with different poems on them (my favorite thing is a deck called Pocket Prayers, published by Chronicle Books, edited by June Cotner). I won third place in a Los Angeles magazine contest called So You Think You Can Write? for an article about going home to family at the holidays, which I was tickled pink about, and have also published a children's short story and in-depth articles on various topics. What else...I can read oracle cards, so if anyone would be interested in a free reading, just ask. :) Most of my scribblings can be found at my website.
Occupation: aspiring Poet Laureate...haha

Megaphone Magazine : May issues out, Vol I and II

Two for the price of one today (what's 2x free anyway...)! It's been so busy round the Megaphone Magazine site that I forgot to post about our new issue back in the beginning of May, yikes. :) Here's a belated cover story pic:

Read the May Vol I issue here . And our current issue, hot off the virtual press, is now online at our homepage with this cover story:

http://www.themegaphone.net

Hope you pop along and catch up, we have some great stories this month! As always, submissions are accepted, just register free. :)

If you're interested at all in business, finance and company reviews, we have a new mag incorporated called The Megaphone Review. We're enjoying researching various companies and types of businesses and I've learned a lot in the last few weeks. :)

The current issue is about MGP Ingredients, Inc (MGPI), who are the largest US producer of wheat gluten. If you've been following the pet food recall or the renewable fuels bill going through Congress just now (MGPI also, amongst other things,  produces ethanol, which is key to the proposals of the S987 bill), you'd probably find it a worthwhile read. :)

Life is busy but good!

Our Dylan Days Special Feature Issue is now live

of the Megaphone Magazine. It focuses on Bob Dylan and the special festival of events held in May in his Hibbing, Minnesota hometown to celebrate his life and works, known as Dylan Days. If you're close by, it sounds like a great time is had by all! :)

We’re really pleased with how it looks. It took a few weeks to bring it all together and there will probably be some last minute submissions added to it, but for now, there it is in all its current glory. Enjoy!.. and if it whets your appetite to write something for that issue that's related to Dylan or even a piece for any other issue, don’t hold back. We love getting submissions for consideration, so why not eh. :)

Songwriters Competition

Any songwriters might be interested in this contest, with a grand prize worth over $5000. I posted the details at my Megaphone blog. Sounds worth a try anyway!

It's not getting much warmer around here. Strange weather indeed for this time of year. The unusually warm March and driest in decades meant that all the trees had budded and blossomed early and then the extended frost hit, again a first in decades, hitting new lows. The effect of these two extremes, one following on the heels of the others, is evident if you only raise your head to look at our town's trees.

The sea of russets, gold, tans, browns, pinks, whites and greens that normally greets us, especially stunning on the highway which is lined for miles, has been replaced by a muddy brown color. Many, many of the tree's leaves and buds have been decimated by the frost and now there hangs just shriveled reminders on many of the most beautifully colored ones. We have probably about sixty trees bordering our property's fenceline with many more beyond that, and it's sad to see the washed out color palette there now.

The evergreens seem to have survived best and while there's some others that appear to have come through it unscathed, we'll see what happens. Not knowing much about trees, I'm hoping that they can recover from this. It reminded me how much we take the simplest things in life for granted and don't pay them any attention until they're gone. So why not take a moment to appreciate what you have today and be grateful for the simple pleasures that nature provides us with. :)

Wishing you all a wonderful week! Adios amigos

Frost but not giving up!

We lost the tomato plants in that unexpected frost unfortunately, so looks like we begin again. The garden is one of the things that we really get pleasure from. There's something about seeing the fruits of your labor when you pick that first tomato or see those seeds sprouting. Maybe it's the reminder that there's always the opportunity for rebirth, renewal and rejuvenation and that life goes on whether you participate actively in it or not. Just think, there's wee seeds there that could be forever encased in a wee packet and on a shelf if we hadn't bought there but instead will be bountiful (hopefully!). That's participating actively for sure in more ways than one lol.  :)

I discovered a new feature on my new shiny Megaphone blog called Asides, that's really handy. It lets you add snippets to your blog without have to make a huge post, which is great as sometimes less is more! I love quotes and will use it for that and more, but am looking for some new quotation sites to try, so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Check out our new magazine issue!

I hope you enjoy what we’ve put together in this free online issue of the Megaphone Magazine! There’s something for everyone, with articles ranging from the practical advice on how to make the most of your studio time in Tips for a Great Recording Session shared by Richard Dolmat, to the chuckles provided in Mary Fagan’s Confessions of a Trophy Wife.

This issue's cover story is a nostalgic trip down memory lane. In Time to smell the flowers, Christine Brooks shares a tribute to her grandfather:
